On the way home from the SWC Fine Arts Festival today I felt the need to write. Results are as follows:
When I really think about it, band seems super weird. It's almost laughable when you realize what it truly is; a group of people getting together to exhale through specialized tubes in sync. But sometimes. Sometimes, magic happens. The idea of group is lost, the sense of self vanishes, and the members become one. Scores of people matching every brainwave exactly. I think it's fascinating. It causes a passion, and a need for constant immersion in music. At least, that's what I have. Choir is similar, but the addition of comprehendible phrases alters the dynamic slightly. It's a group of people getting together to talk on certain pitches, for certain lengths of time, at certain times. Awkward, right??
The common thread between the two groups is the song. A song is a snippet of past reality caught in the present. It can reveal a thought, illustrate an image, or evoke an emotion. Songs are powerful. Singing songs is an activity that I like to believe has existed as long as mankind has walked this earth. They can be used to transfer stories, teach lessons, and entertain audiences. Songs are one of the most versalite art forms available. Songs can heal.
