Today on NPR they posted the winner of the Three-Minute Fiction contest. All entries had to be under 600 words, and had to begin with the given prompt: "She closed the book, placed it on the table, and finally, decided to walk through the door."
The winning story is about the efforts of a mother to give her dying five-year-old a taste of all the experiences he will never have as an adult. It is simply worded, touching, and beautiful. Please, take three minutes to check it out.

This story is a great reminder to never take anything for granted, and to enjoy the little things in life. I hope that my writing will eventually be as effortless as this piece.
